Location:
Online (Via Zoom)

Many young people feel overwhelmed by the news. Instead of staying informed, they increasingly avoid news, consume it only superficially, or fall into doomscrolling. This can make current affairs feel confusing, exhausting or distant and weaken their sense of connection to public debate and democratic life.

In this lunchtime event, Ojasvi Jalal, founder of the interactive news start-up Cauldron, will discuss how news can be made more accessible, engaging and less overwhelming for young people and present Cauldron’s approach. Instead of passively reading headlines, users make predictions about what happens next and later see what actually occurred. The discussion will explore how this active engagement can deepen understanding, sustain interest in current affairs and support democratic participation.

staatskantine #80 will take place on Thursday, 17 September 2026, from 12:00 to 13:15, online via Zoom. The event will be held in English.

This Staatskantine is open to employees of the public administration, as well as to representatives of foundations and media professionals. Participation is free of charge.

We look forward to having you join us!
